1. Who Qualifies for Duty-Free Relief — the Eligibility Rules
Duty-free treatment for a relocation to Poland is not automatic — you have to meet several statutory conditions. Customs will look at both how long you lived outside the EU and the nature of the goods you are bringing in.

- Declare realistic used values — not the original purchase prices
- Keep personal documents, medication and valuables with you in your carry-on
- Avoid packing brand-new items in original retail packaging — they can be treated as commercial goods
- Photograph valuable items before packing them
- Disassemble furniture and protect it with wrap and moving blankets
- Pack electronics in their original boxes if you still have them
- Keep a copy of the inventory for yourself — the original travels with the customs file
5. The Ocean Leg — Transit Times and How Quoting Works
The crossing from New York/New Jersey to Gdynia takes about 16–20 days, and a door-to-door move typically closes in 4–6 weeks. From Savannah the sailing takes around 18–24 days, from Houston 24–30 days, and from Los Angeles 30–38 days.
You can choose a 20' container (about 33 m³), a 40' (about 58 m³) or a 40' High Cube (about 65 m³); for a smaller move you pay only for the space you actually use in a shared LCL container.
