USA–Europe container shipping: how it works and how long it takes

Container being loaded at the port

Ocean shipping in a container is the standard way to move larger loads between the USA and Europe — cars, household goods, commercial cargo. With direct carrier contracts, cargo arrives faster and cheaper than through a chain of middlemen.

Here's the journey your cargo takes and what affects the time and price.

Full container or shared

You have two options. A full container (FCL) is an entire 40' at your disposal — ideal for a move or several cars. Shared cargo (consolidation) means you pay only for the space you use, splitting the cost with others — often the cheapest option for smaller loads.

The route: from the USA to Gdynia

We collect cargo in the USA and route it to the port in New Jersey or Savannah. Once loaded into the container, it sails to the port of Gdynia. The ocean leg itself usually takes 3–5 weeks, plus time for collection, loading and clearance.

Customs clearance and delivery in Europe

On arrival in Gdynia we handle customs clearance and compile the paperwork, then arrange delivery to your address. We run it all in English and Polish, so you never deal with the carrier or a customs agency yourself.
